Serve, grow, and make lasting memories

Each summer, our Senior High Youth Group travels to a different community for a week of hands-on service, meaningful connection, and shared adventure. The trip begins the day after high school graduation and gives students the opportunity to step outside their everyday routines to serve others in practical and impactful ways.

From building ramps and decks to painting, repairs, cleanup, and community support projects, students work alongside one another to make a tangible difference while learning what it means to serve with compassion and humility.

More than a Service Trip

Work Trip is about more than the projects we complete—it’s about the relationships built along the way.

  • Throughout the week, students:

    • Build meaningful friendships with peers and leaders
    • Grow in confidence through hands-on work and new experiences
    • Learn practical skills through teamwork and service
    • Explore what it means to live out their faith through action
    • Experience life in community through shared work, meals, worship, and reflection

  • The Work Trip is open to senior high students in our youth ministry community who have earned a minimum of 5 points by attending youth events. If you don’t meet these requirements, please email Anne Winebrenner at awinebrenner@firstchurchlf.org. Exceptions will be reviewed by the Youth Leadership Team.

Work Advisors play an important role in making our Senior High Work Trip possible. By joining the trip as an adult leader, you’ll help guide students through hands-on service projects, encourage them in their faith, and be part of a meaningful week of community, growth, and impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Learning new skills, and often surprising themselves with their natural aptitude, is a key part of of Work Trip. We welcome anyone with an interest and enthusiasm!

  • The current program fee is $WIP. This covers transportation, accommodation, a highly sought after commemorative sweatshirt, and meals. Generous scholarships are available. Money should never stop someone from this experience.

  • We traditionally leave the first Sunday in June after Lake Forest High School gets out for the year.
