  • Who can join?

    Membership is open to all who confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and desire to make First Presbyterian Church their church home. It is one of the ways we live our mission to nurture a community of faith working through love.

  • How do I join?

    Membership classes are offered twice a year, once in spring and again in fall. They provide an opportunity to learn more about First Pres, explore the basics of Presbyterian faith and practice, and connect with others who are discerning the same step.

What does Membership mean?

Membership at First Pres means making this church your church home and committing to share in its worship, life, and ministry.

As a member, you are invited to:

  • Participate regularly in worship and the life of the church

  • Grow in your faith and relationship with God

  • Build relationships and care for others in our community

  • Serve others with your time, gifts, and resources

  • Support the mission and ministry of First Pres

Because we are Presbyterian, membership also means having a voice in the life and direction of the church. Members help elect our leaders, may serve as elders and deacons, and share responsibility for discerning where God is calling us together.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Baptism is the sign of our belonging to Christ and is part of becoming a member of the church. If you have already been baptized in another Christian tradition, you do not need to be baptized again. If you have never been baptized, we would be glad to talk with you about baptism as part of becoming a member.

  • Absolutely. Our members come from many different churches and Christian traditions.

  • No. We are united by our faith in Jesus Christ, but that does not mean we all think alike. Presbyterians have always valued thoughtful questions, honest conversation, and the freedom to wrestle with matters of faith. You do not need to have everything figured out or agree with everyone in order to belong here.

  • That’s wonderful. Our pastors would be glad to meet with you, answer your questions, and help you explore what it means to follow Jesus.
